Hiroshima is blessed with a natural environment comprising both seaside and mountainous areas.
The Sakurao warehouse, where the gentle sea breezes of the Seto Inland Sea reach, and the Togouchi warehouse, nestled in the heart of the Chugoku Mountains surrounded by forests and clear streams.
The difference in environment between these two warehouses allows us to produce a wide variety of whiskies.
The distiller, inheriting techniques refined over more than a century and having tasted a large number of whiskies, selects excellent malt whiskies with a delicate sensibility.
The whiskies from SAKURAO DISTILLERY have a moderate aroma characterized by estery, fruity notes gently rising.

selected by our stillman. - Blessed with the natural environments of both sea and mountain, The SAKURAO DISTILLERY has storage warehouses in different environments, allowing us to create whiskies with different approaches. Our stillman has tasted a vast number of whiskies, and selected sherry casks in the best conditions to make a blend. The SAKURAO DISTILLERY whiskies have a moderate aroma characterized by an estery, fruity aroma. With an aroma of raisins and cacao, and a hint of the aroma of the nearby Seto Inland Sea, our whisky offers a fruity flavor reminiscent of dark cherries and oranges harmonized with a faint peat aroma. Enjoy the woody scent along with a deep, bittersweet aftertaste.

Our distillery tour allows you to view the beautiful still that we use to make our purely Japanese gin which is made with select ingredients from Hiroshima, and single malt whisky. The tour will also give you access to touch panels that introduce you to our botanicals and you will also be able to touch and feel the actual botanicals.

Leaving everything to the natural environment is a new challenge with unknown result, just like a tunnel with no end in sight. However, discussions with whisky enthusiasts about the future of whiskies have heightened our expectations. And at last, in a tunnel filled with mist, we found a whisky that embodies the natural beauty of the Togouchi area, with its brightness and fragrance. It has a deep flavor and a lingering finish as if it had been aged for a decade or more, with nuances of new-pot, an estery aroma of bananas, apples and melon.
